Join the Anesthesiology Interest Group for an anesthesiology skills workshop on Monday, December 1st from 3-5 pm. Students will be divided into 2 groups and get hands-on experience with placing orotracheal tubes for intubation, central lines (with ultrasound), and arterial lines. This will be held in the MASTRI Center of the hospital (7th floor). Instructions to get there will be sent out to those who sign-up. 

Join the Policy Collective Interest Group and the MedChi Medical Student Section for a session with Teresa Healey-Conway, Executive Director of the Anne Arundel & Howard County Medical Society and Prince George's County Medical Society.

Teresa will provide an overview of advocacy and health policy in Maryland—perfect preparation for MedChi's Student Advocacy Day in Annapolis on February 2nd, 2026.

Join us for a patient perspective conversation as we welcome Katherine Jeffreys, the sister of our late classmate Will Jeffreys (UMSOM Class of 2028), who passed away last year from lymphoma.

Though this is a heavy and emotional topic, we wanted to hold this event for several reasons. As M1s are studying heme-onc and learning about blood cancers, we wanted to offer space to hear directly from someone who walked through this experience with her family. Katherine will share her family’s journey through Will's diagnosis and treatment. She hopes to offer us insight into the challenges, emotions, and moments of hope that shaped their experience.

She will also speak about the role that her Christian faith played in her and her brother’s lives: how it supported them through uncertainty, guided their family's grieving process, and continues to bring them comfort today. Above all, this event is an opportunity for us, as the UMSOM community, to remember and honor Will's life together.

We will have an open time for Katherine's sharing and Q&A for students to ask about navigating serious illness, supporting loved ones, and processing loss. All faith backgrounds are welcome, and lunch will be provided.

Come hear a pilot, flight paramedic, and emergency medicine physician discuss what wilderness medicine can look like in the city and on helicopter transports. After hearing them speak we'll take a trip up to the shock trauma helipad to get a tour of one of the helicopters.

Great event for anyone interested in emergency medicine, wilderness medicine, shock trauma, transplant medicine, or who wants to check out the helipad before your third year rotation!

Come learn from SMYAL on creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ patients, especially children! This is especially useful with service learning in school settings to ensure LGBTQIA+ youth feel safe and included. This will be a lecture/discussion based event - food will be included.
