At this event we plan to discuss the topic of Minority Tax as it relates to both faculty and students. Minority tax, for our purposes, can be defined as the "burden of time or resources placed on minority persons to represent or advocate for their communities" (Kamceva, et al., 2022). Minority tax has also been defined as the burden of "extra responsibilities placed on minority faculty in the name of efforts to achieve diversity" (Rodriguez et al., 2015).

We are interested in educating our members on this topic while facilitating a conversation on different experiences, and methods of coping with emotions related to Minority Tax. We also wish to provide advice and strategies on how to maintain a commitment to diversity and inclusion efforts despite these emotions.

Join SNMA for our second general body meeting of the year to discuss minority tax and stress. All are welcome to attend and lunch will be provided! Sign up by 10/1!
