Please join us for our Women in Medicine Panel: Working in a Male-Dominated Specialty next Monday November 3rd from 12pm to 1pm in Reid Room B. We will have an amazing set of panelists from both surgical and non-surgical specialties to discuss their experiences and offer advice about working in male-dominated specialties as women physicians.

Our panelists will include Dr. Kathryn Robinett (Pulmonary and Critical Care), Dr. Rydhwana Hossain (Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine), and Dr. Shelby Stewart (Cardiothoracic surgeon).

Suture Clinic x WHIG is cohosting Part IV of the Suture Series: Multi-Layered Closures this upcoming Tuesday, November 4th, from 5-7 p.m. This session will be focused on deep-dermal suturing and a review of vertical and horizontal mattress sutures, which are especially relevant to OB/GYN procedures such as C-sections. Join the Emergency Medicine Interest Group for a table-top disaster medicine activity! Dr. Jasani, emergency medicine physician, has prepared an EM/EMS disaster scenario where we will move ambulances around a map, move patients around a department, and learn the ins and outs of disaster medicine. Talking about sexual health with young patients can feel daunting, but it’s one of the most important skills we develop as future clinicians. Dr. Matthew Grant, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Medical Director of the Adolescent and Young Adult Center, and Assistant Director of the Pediatric Residency Program, will lead a session focused on setting an inclusive tone, navigating sensitive topics, and supporting adolescents and young adults, especially LGBTQ youth and those living with HIV. The event will begin with a short talk, followed by an open conversation driven by audience questions.

Are you exploring the plethora of medical specialties you can possibly go into? Many medical students fallaciously underlook the specialty of Urology! This first interest group meeting starring Dr. Minhaj Siddiqui will highlight everything there is to know about the specialty: what a urologist does day to day, urological diseases and surgeries, applying to residency, etc. It will take place noon of Friday, November 7th, and sign ups will open on Monday, November 3rd.

You're welcome to join regardless of whether or not you sign up, but the first 40 people to sign up will get lunch provided! Hope to see everyone there!

Hello everyone! If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is just “boobjobs and injections”, you may want to mark your calendars for November 20th, 12-1 PM!  The Plastic Surgery Interest Group is hosting a talk let by Dr. Pan and Dr. Lamaris, Shock Trauma plastic and reconstructive surgery attendings, who will be introducing this creative, vastly variable, and constantly evolving field!

 

There will be very yummy catering (EKIBEN!!!) on behalf of our wonderful sponsors, Baltimore Depuy Synthes, CMF and Thoracic division, who will also be discussing their work within the field.

Join the Anesthesiology Interest Group for an anesthesiology skills workshop on Monday, December 1st from 3-5 pm. Students will be divided into 2 groups and get hands-on experience with placing orotracheal tubes for intubation, central lines (with ultrasound), and arterial lines. This will be held in the MASTRI Center of the hospital (7th floor). Instructions to get there will be sent out to those who sign-up.
