Question 1/2 - What nerve do you think has been injured?

Click on your selected option(s) below  (correct = 1, over-thinking = 2+)

Incorrect. Optic nerve controls the sensory perception of vision and is not involved in motor control of the eyeball.

Correct! The oculomotor nerve innervates the superior rectus muscle necessary to elevate the eye.

Incorrect. The primary function of this muscle is intorsion (internal rotation of the eyeball), with secondary roles in the 'down and out' motion (i.e. depression and abduction).

Incorrect. The trigeminal nerve is responsible for sensation around the eye, not motor control.

Incorrect. The abducens nerve controls abduction of the eye (the ability to look to the lateral side away from the midline)

Incorrect. The facial nerve controls muscles of facial expression, necessary for closing the eyelids, but not in the control of eyeball motion.
